I'm Candace Hudson-Jackson, the CEO of Mindfulness Learning with a Twist, LLC. Thank you for visiting our website. I am thrilled to share my personal journey and insights into how incorporating meditation and mindfulness practices into my daily routine has positively impacted my goal achievement. In this introduction, I'll delve into the origins of this innovative learning concept and explain why it holds tremendous potential for those embarking on this transformative adventure with us.
My commitment to fitness and a healthy lifestyle began 15 years ago, triggered by a pivotal moment when my mother faced a life-threatening surgery. This event reshaped my perspective on the significance of healthy eating and regular exercise. Determined to lead a healthy life, I delved into research on the benefits of nutrition, exercise frequency, immune-supporting fruits and vegetables, daily vitamins, and suitable diets. Despite occasional deviations from my vegetarian diet, I persevered on my health journey. However, I sensed that something was missing.
The turning point came when I attended my first hot yoga class, discovering the profound impact of focus and balance on my well-being. Unlike my previous approach centered on physical appearance, yoga introduced me to the importance of mental exercise. Yoga became a daily practice, but the real revelation occurred when I explored meditation after stumbling upon its benefits in a YouTube video. Initially skeptical, I soon realized that meditation was more than chanting "Om." With consistent practice, I sharpened my focus, enabling me to excel in various aspects of life, including academics, emotional regulation, and confidence building.
As I integrated mindfulness practices into my routine, I experienced enhanced clarity and balance, successfully juggling the roles of a single mother, full-time worker, and student. In 2013, I introduced meditation to my students, initially encountering skepticism from colleagues who associated it with religious practices. Contrary to misconceptions, meditation is a facet of mindfulness, emphasizing awareness of the present moment without judgment.
Implementing mindfulness in the classroom fostered a calmer environment, with students exhibiting improved creativity, open communication about their challenges, and a heightened awareness of consequences for negative actions. Recognizing these positive outcomes, I was invited to present the benefits of meditation for professional development within the school district, leading to widespread adoption among teachers and a more pleasant overall school environment.
After successfully incorporating mindfulness practices into various school districts, I founded Mindfulness Learning with a Twist. Our company uniquely combines mindfulness practices, including breathing exercises, guided imagery, yoga, and journaling, with traditional learning experiences like tutoring and homework help. Our goal is to support students in achieving their academic growth objectives.
